🧭 Start-up Relationships

As my company is just beginning to enter the medical devices market, an important work stream is building relationships with start-ups where we can either provide a component, invest, or acquire new technology.

So far, this has allowed me to understand the medical devices market from a supplier perspective rather than R&D.

πŸ” Contract Manufacturing

This project investigates a different side of medical devices - how the complex components comprising a device are sourced.

So far, I have been exposed to numerous companies I was previously unaware of and am gaining greater technical exposure to the components needed for successful products.

βš–οΈ Ecosystems/Associations

This workstream is one which my supervisor has identified I will be driving independantly. As my company seeks to gain recognition and validation as a contributor in the medical devices field, we hope to join a prevalent med-tech association. Though this project has only just begun, below are the major skills I anticipate I will gain from this experience.

Project Management

As I will be responsible for driving this project, the management aspect including timelines, overall organization, and understanding of stakeholders while be extremely important.

Assertiveness/Confidence

As an intern, it is easy to shy away from taking an assertive stance out of the fear that you are bothering full-time employees or adding to their workload. I hope this project encourages me to express confidence in my work as it is an important task for the company and should be treated this way by other employees.

Communication

Leading a project of any sort, especially one including individuals across different teams and organizations requires strong communication. This is important to coordinate groups while also ensuring there is clear understanding.

Accountability

One of the greatest challenges I have witnessed while working in large corporations is the lack of accountability which arises when multiple teams are involved in a project. By leading this project I will have to be willing to put my hand up as the owner of it’s successes and failures.
