Hi, I’m Agatha! Student, water polo player, future biomedical and chemical engineering all in one! Welcome to my personal portfolio. This is a reflection of my personal growth and journey through the 2022-2023 academic year.
I enrolled in the ENG 3CX3 course in hopes of leveraging my extracurricular involvement at McMaster to develop more transferable soft skills. Most notably, I am a member of the McMaster Women’s water polo team. Aside from my academics, this commitment takes up most of my time during the school year but has grown to be something I am incredibly passionate about. While initially I was too timid to join any organized sport following the transition to university, I have since learned I am more than capable of making time for things I find important. In fact, I even thrive with a busier schedule as it forces me to stay organized!
At the start of this course I identified some key areas of personal improvement I wanted to work towards. Most significantly, I recognized that while I am hardworking, I often get in my own way by not committing 100% of myself out of fear that I am fail. This mentality has surrounded many aspects of my life and was a large contributor to why I ended my swimming career very early on despite good results and progress. The reflections of this course have already made substantial changes to my mindset and actions on the team. I went from in my eyes, being a middle of the pack water polo player, who had only played 1 season before, to being on the starting line up for our OUA championship with girls who have previously represented team Canada!
My personal progression throughout this year is captured in this portfolio. Below, you will find links to the 4 completed fall semester workshops, my reflections, as well as some other aspects of my life I feel are important to my personal development. As the year continues this portfolio will continue to expand!
